Nurseries

Between 1989 and 1999 Brinkman & Associates owned and operated two profitable and technically advanced forest nurseries which grew about 200 million forest seedlings as well as seasonable vegetable, flowers, wetland and restoration crops. In 1999 these nurseries were sold to PRT, a public company.

In the course of operating these nurseries, which were the second largest group of forest seedling nurseries in Ontario, we developed a number of innovations which included growing forest seedlings in Jiffy containers, and the use of mini-plugs. We developed cold storage methods ranging from storing under natural and artificial snow cover at the nursery and in the field to advanced cold storage facilities. The company also developed and successfully marketed many nursery and silvicultural tools and methods including a seedling transportation truck canopy as well as a shade tents and irrigation systems for holding seedlings in the field before planting.

We conducted over 50 related research trials in our nurseries on our own or in partnership with interested clients and agencies from seed treatment to seedling delivery. Those trial results contribute to our success and to the nursery industry in general.

The company has over ten years of nursery development and operational experience and has worked with and consulted in the forest nursery industry for over 30 years.
