Growing Teak Work in Costa Rica and surrounding Central American countries is undertaken by Brinkman & Associates Costa Rican subsidiary, Brinkman & Associados Reforestacion Centro America (BARCA). Founded in 1995, BARCA focuses on the planning, development and silviculture requirements of high value fast growing tropical hardwood plantations. From its first plantation in 1995, BARCA has focused on integrating ecological restoration goals and native species components in its plantations. BARCA's policy of assisting sustainable rural community development, and worker training has been crucial in developing a strong well supported team.
BARCA recently sought and received recognition for its successful integration of ecological, social and economic goals in the BARCA managed plantations through a Forest Stewardship Council audit by Smartwood. This audit resulted in BARCA becoming the first FSC Certified Resource Manager for plantations in Central America.
More information on BARCA and its projects is contained on the BARCA website.
